Change Majors

Current ASU students may change their major to a degree program in the W. P. Carey School of Business by meeting direct admission requirements. See below for next steps.

Next Steps

Students that meet direct admission requirements should submit a “Change Major” request through Advising SOS.

Students who do not meet direct admission requirements should submit an Admissions Portfolio for consideration.

Minimum Requirements

In addition to meeting the following minimum GPA requirements, students must have earned grades of “C” or better in any attempted business skills courses:

  • CIS 105: Computer Applications & Info Technology
  • MAT 210: Brief Calculus
  • MAT 211: Math for Business Analysis
  • ECN 211: Macroeconomic Principles
  • ECN 212: Microeconomic Principles
  • ACC 231: Uses of Accounting Info I
  • ACC 241: Uses of Accounting Info II
  • ECN 221: Business Statistics

Bachelor of Arts in Applied Business and Technology Solutions or Entrepreneurial Leadership

A current ASU student has no additional requirements for changing majors into these programs. Students should visit the Change of Major form for information about how to change a major to these programs.

Bachelor of Arts degree programs

  • No academic integrity violations on file
  • Current BA in Business or W. P. Carey BS student:
    • 2.0 ASU cumulative GPA and 2.0 Transfer GPA (if you have attended another institution)
  • All other ASU students including Bachelor of Arts in Applied Business and Technology Solutions and Bachelor of Arts in Entrepreneurial Leadership:
    • 3.0 ASU cumulative GPA and 3.0 Transfer GPA (if you have attended another institution)

    OR

  • 24 hrs completed at ASU and
  • 2.75 cumulative ASU GPA  and
  • A minimum grade of C or higher in the following business skills courses (or equivalent):

- CIS 105: Computer Applications & Info Technology
- MAT 210 : Brief Calculus
- ECN 211: Macroeconomic Principles or ECN 212: Microeconomic Principles
- ACC 231: Uses of Accounting Info I

*All students who have been classified as a first-year student at any Arizona public institution during Fall 2007 or later must follow eAdvisor/critical tracking requirements.  View all W. P. Carey School of Business major maps.

*Students whose majors have been changed due to critical tracking, must complete all eight business skills classes and meet one of the above criteria before returning to W. P. Carey.


Bachelor of Science degree programs

  • Students who were admitted as a first-year student into a Bachelor of Science degree within the W. P. Carey School of Business, and have maintained continuous enrollment in any W. P. Carey School of Business degree may choose to change to any other major within the W. P. Carey School of Business provided they are in good academic standing.

  • Students who were not admitted as a first-year student into a Bachelor of Science degree within the W. P. Carey School of Business must have a 3.0 ASU cumulative GPA and 3.0 Transfer GPA (if you have attended another institution) AND meet direct admission requirements through one of the following:
    • An SAT (math and critical reading sections only) score of 1230 (after March 2016) or 1160 (prior to March 2016) or
    • an ACT (composite) score of 25 or
    • a top 8 percent high school class rank or
    • an overall high school GPA of 3.4 (3.6 GPA admitted before Fall 2020 term) in ASU competency courses (A = 4.0)

      OR

    • Minimum 30 hours completed at ASU
    • Minimum 3.4 cumulative ASU GPA
    • Minimum 3.0 transfer GPA (if you have attended another institution)
    • Completion of all Business skill courses
    • Minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA in all Business skill courses with a C grade or higher
    • No academic integrity violations on file

Admissions Portfolio Process

If you do not meet the direct admission requirements for either the BA or BS degree programs, you may submit a portfolio application to the W. P. Carey School of Business Undergraduate Programs Office. Your portfolio will be reviewed by the department that you have specified on your application please note that this is a competitive admissions process and admission is not guaranteed. If you are transferring from another institution, you must be admitted to ASU before submitting your portfolio. Please note applicable portfolio submission deadlines.
