Direct Admission Requirements

Depending on your degree and major of choice, W. P. Carey School of Business programs have different direct admission requirements. Here you’ll find helpful information about what’s required.

Bachelor of Arts (BATS/BEL) programs

Students who meet the following criteria may be directly admitted to the W. P. Carey School of Business Bachelor of Arts in Applied Business Technology Solutions or Bachelor of Arts in Entrepreneurial Leadership:

• General University Admission Requirements: All students are required to meet general university admission requirements.
  First-year | Transfer | International | Readmission

Change of major requirements: A current ASU student has no additional requirements for changing majors into these programs. Students should visit the Change of Major form for information about how to change a major to these programs.

An ASU Academic Integrity violation may preclude a student from entering or changing W. P. Carey academic programs.

Bachelor of Arts in Business degrees

Students who meet the following criteria may be directly admitted to a W. P. Carey School of Business Bachelor of Arts in business degree.

• 3.0 cumulative ASU GPA  and
• 3.0 cumulative transfer GPA (if you have attended another institution)  and
• Minimum grade of C or higher must be met for all business skills courses (or equivalent) taken:

CIS 105: Computer Applications & Info Technology
MAT 210: Brief Calculus
MAT 211: Math for Business Analysis
ECN 211: Macroeconomic Principles
ECN 212: Microeconomic Principles
ACC 231: Uses of Accounting Info I
ACC 241: Uses of Accounting Info II
ECN 221: Business Statistics

                           OR

• 24 credit hrs completed at ASU and
• 2.75 cumulative ASU GPA  and
• A minimum grade of C or higher in the following business skills courses (or equivalent) taken:

CIS 105: Computer Applications & Info Technology
MAT 210: Brief Calculus
ECN 211: Macroeconomic Principles or ECN 212: Microeconomic Principles
ACC 231: Uses of Accounting Info I

*All students who have been classified as a first-year student at any Arizona public institution during Fall 2007 or later must follow eAdvisor/critical tracking requirements.  View all W. P. Carey School of Business major maps.

*Students whose majors have been changed due to critical tracking, must complete all eight business skills classes and meet one of the above criteria before returning to W. P. Carey.

Bachelor of Science degrees

Students who meet the following criteria may be directly admitted to a W. P. Carey School of Business Bachelor of Science degree.

Option 1 criteria:

• SAT (math and critical reading sections only) Reasoning scores of 1230 (March 2016 and after) or 1160 (prior to March 2016), or an ACT (composite) score of 25 or a top 8 percent high school class rank, or an overall high school GPA of 3.4 (3.6 GPA admitted before Fall 2020 term) in ASU competency courses (scale is 4.00 = "A")
• A 3.0 cumulative ASU GPA
• A 3.0 cumulative transfer GPA (if you have attended another institution)
• A minimum grade of C or higher must be met for all business skills courses (or equivalent) if previously taken:
• CIS 105: Computer Applications & Info Technology
• MAT 210: Brief Calculus
• MAT 211: Math for Business Analysis
• ECN 211: Macroeconomic Principles
• ECN 212: Microeconomic Principles
• ACC 231: Uses of Accounting Info I
• ACC 241: Uses of Accounting Info II
• ECN 221: Business Statistics

Option 2 criteria:

Students who have previously attended or are currently attending ASU may be directly admitted to Bachelor of Science degree majors if they meet the following requirements. Consult with your academic advisor to confirm your qualifications:

• Minimum 30 hours completed at ASU and
• Minimum 3.4 cumulative ASU GPA and
• 3.0 cumulative transfer GPA (if you have attended another institution) and
• Completion of all Business skill courses
• Students must have earned grades of “C” or better in any attempted business skills courses
• Minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA in all Business skill courses with a C grade or higher and
• No academic integrity violations on file

Portfolio Admission Process

If you do not meet the direct admission requirements for either the BA or BS degree programs, you may submit a portfolio application to the W. P. Carey School of Business Undergraduate Programs Office.  Your portfolio will be reviewed by the department that you have specified on your application.  This is a competitive admissions process and admission is not guaranteed.  If you are transferring from another institution, you must be admitted to ASU before submitting your portfolio.  View admission portfolio submission deadlines.
